Welcome to the UA Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.

Our faculty are leading exciting research for government agencies, the military and industry. Students work with renowned experts in fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and flow control, spacecraft guidance and navigation, tissue engineering and microelectromechanical systems, composite materials and materials failure prediction, renewable energy, and more.

The department’s interdisciplinary reach into lunar and planetary sciences, optical sciences, applied mathematics, biomedical and biosystems engineering helps students gear their education to the areas in which they are most interested.

Extracurricular activities get students out of the classroom and into the real world. Undergraduates participate in the college’s Engineering Design Program and internships and club competitions, such as the Society of Automotive Engineers’ Formula and Baja races, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ Design/Build/Fly contest and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Human Powered Vehicle Challenge.

AME graduates are well prepared for challenging careers and receive excellent job offers from companies like Raytheon, Boeing, Honeywell, Orbital ATK and W.L. Gore. Alumni hold leadership positions at companies and institutions throughout the world.
